End Fast

I decided to end my fast this morning. I had such terrible back pain that I couldn't sleep at all last night. I feel really good about the work I did over the last week. I'll give it another shot in the future. After today I'll get back into my 16:8 window and stay in keto.

Starting weight: 213.2 pounds
Ending weight: 205 pounds
Total loss: 8.2 pounds 😀

Fast - Day 7

Still having some muscle aches in my back, salt and water aren't really making a difference. Otherwise I feel pretty normal. Having doubts that I am ready to finish this 21 day fast. I really just want to eat even though I'm really not all that hungry. I just miss eating. It was a lot easier during the workweek not to think about food. My days off have been harder; making food for my family and just sitting there watching them eat is kind of depressing. I am excited to weigh myself and see my progress so far. I normally only weigh myself once a month or so. Hopefully I won't be disappointed!

Fast - Day 6

Today has been rough. It's my day off so not sure if that is messing with my head but I have no energy and I'm hungry. I'm going to push through and see what happens.

The day did get better but I have had some muscle aches. Been drinking plenty of water and salt but doesn't seem to make a difference.

Fast - Day 5

Everything is going very well. I have not been hungry at all, it's so counterintuitive coming from the person who was thinking about their next meal as they were eating. This journey has shown me so much about my abilities and how much I've been holding myself back because of preconceived notions. We are capable of so much more than we ever give ourselves credit for!

I've been on a kick watching My 600 Pound Life and I just feel so bad for these people. Some of them lose well over a hundred pounds in the month before their surgery and still believe that they can't do it without surgery. They have no confidence in their own abilities. Guess what? Yes, you can do it, you don't need surgery! I'm not knocking people who resort to surgery but if you do it because it's your last resort, you're lying to yourself.

Fast - Day 4

I think I'm getting sick of bone broth; I've only had one today or maybe I'm just not hungry. And I think the collagen made me bloated. After a little research I found it's best to gradually add collagen to the diet, tomorrow I will take less and see what happens. The gelatin was a little weird in my bone broth yesterday, the texture was almost gravy like. I didn't take any today.

I still feel like I have tons of energy, am I going to keep feeling good? The nice part about today I don't feel irritated like the last couple days. I woke up super warm last night; I had to rip my covers off because I was just on fire! I'm hoping that's a good thing. No headaches or anything today felt totally normal.

Fast - Day 3

Whoa, last night I got a mega headache paired with crabby toddler, not fun. I took some salt and water and it lasted about an hour and half.

Today, everything went very well. I feel like my energy level is continuing to rise. I tried my bone broth that I made yesterday and it's not my favorite. Luckily, butter makes everything better!

Fast - Day 2

Yesterday, went off without a hitch!

Today, I have been following the plan. Started with Kombucha, had fatty coffee when I got to work. I wasn't hungry at all until around 1pm so I heated up my fatty bone broth of course added salt. At work I drank as much water as I needed and had the occasional salt dip when I started to feel off. Now I'm drinking my fatty bone broth while making more bone broth! This time I'm making beef in the pressure cooker.

Energy level feels good, I used epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) and jojoba oil as a scrub and relaxed in the tub a bit. I'm actually a little surprised the last time I did a 48 hour fast I was spent at the end but I'm wondering if setting up an end time threw me off.

My journey to date

My Keto journey began in the Fall of 2015; I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I figured I needed to do something about it but I was determined not to go the ADA route. My dad is in dialysis 3 days a week thanks to insulin and I refuse to end up like that. I had done Paleo diet after having my son and had lost 70 pounds and a year later had gained back over half the weight back. I was not keeping track of macros and actually I had never even heard of macros during my Paleo times. I think Paleo was a great stepping stone but it's just way too loose for anyone with a metabolic syndrome. If you aren't paying attention to carbs, protein or fat it's impossible to control blood sugars.

In November 2015 I found a Facebook group called Reversing Diabetes; it was the first time I understood the advantages of a Ketogenic diet. I did really well on straight up Keto but I still had a difficult time controlling my Fasting Blood Sugar. There were some murmurs of Intermittent Fasting  but Reversing Diabetes doesn't promote IF so I ventured out. I found a few really junk groups and then I finally found one that met my needs. I started IF and fairly quickly my FBS dropped below 100 but this group didn't really support Keto diet; so I ended up creating my own group that combined the two. In doing so I have found even more groups and resources. So here we are; tomorrow I start a 21 day fast. I'm hoping this fast will kick start a decent weight loss. I've lost 30-40 pounds since fall but I have had a difficult time staying in Keto. The IF is easy for me; I don't even have to think about it, it's so natural for me. I suspect this commitment to the 21 day fast will propel me to stay in Keto after the fast.
